Road trip time! While on the way up the East coast to visit some family, I took my mom on a side venture to Savannah, GA to eat at The Lady and Sons Restaurant. We both had never been to Savannah before and have always heard about how Paula Deen had a restaurant there, so being an adventurer I decided to give it a try. When I called to see if they took reservations I was told that I had to come in the morning when they opened at 9:30am to make a reservation for lunch or come in the afternoon to make a reservation for dinner.
Much to my surprise they don’t take reservations over the phone – you have to physically go and stand in line to make them. So I got up early the next morning and stood in a line with a bunch of other curious people to make an afternoon lunch reservation.
I thought, “Wow! This better be good food!” And I’m happy to say they didn’t disappoint! It was delicious!!! I ordered the chicken potpie and a Southern favorite, a tall glass of sweet tea!
The chicken was so tender, juicy, and seasoned perfectly, and those big pieces of flaky crust just melted in your mouth – it was scrumpdilly-ious! But the best part was the side of crispy spinach they served with it, incredible!! I could have eaten a whole plate of it!
And that was just the beginning to our wonderful lunch, as we were eating we heard some commotion by the front door and to our surprise the “Deen Boys” had just walked in! Jamie and Bobby Deen… How Cool!!
They came in and went to the back room to say hello to the guests, so I jumped up with camera in hand and went on to the back! They were so nice and very kind to everyone. They signed books and took pictures with anyone who wanted to stick around. Not to mentioned how handsome they were in person. It was such a pleasant surprise for both of us that it made me a fan for life!
Looking through our delicious recipes here at MrFood.com, I came across a fun way to prepare my own Chicken Potpie, it’s called Chicken Potpie Crocks, and it’s perfect for just one or two people since it’s made and served in individual size servings, which I like to call “fun size”! So I can now re-create something fun and tasty just like at The Lady and Sons.
Have you ever been to The Lady and Sons Restaurant? How about Savannah, GA?
