Living in South Florida definitely has its advantages. When the news is reporting snowstorms around the country and we are heading to the beach, life is good. However, we also miss out on the change of the more mild seasons – especially my favorite one, autumn.

I didn’t always live in the South; I spent my early years living in the Northeast. This time of year we would see leaves changing colors, pull out our sweaters and long pants, and start cooking heartier meals in the oven, rather than on the grill.

A couple of weeks ago was the official start of fall. Even though it was about 92 degrees outside, I felt the need to do something to acknowledge the change of season. I went to my trusted source for recipes, MrFood.com.  Even though it was the weekend, that does not mean I have the luxury of cooking all day with two kids running around!

The first dish to jump out at me was short ribs! Our site has a number to choose from, but I decided on this one. I made a batch of mashed potatoes and steamed some broccoli, and dinner was done. Even though we were eating dinner wearing shorts with the air conditioning on, it felt a bit like fall in our house. Maybe next week, it will cool down just enough to make apple cider!
