It was just another typical day in the Mr. Food Test Kitchen. Well, now that I’m thinking of it, there are no typical days in our Test Kitchen…
I wanted to share a little story that happened the other day when I was testing some new desserts for the website and our TV segment. I made a batch of chocolate chip cookie cups that I was going to fill with various fillings. The idea was that you could put just about anything in a cookie cup and it would taste good.
Anyway, the timer went off, I grabbed a pot holder and as I was taking the mini cookie cups out of the oven, the pan slipped out of my hand and and fell onto the oven door. Well, so much for that batch! And so I spent the next 20 minutes cleaning up my mess.
But you know what? We all had a good laugh, and it proves that whether you are a kitchen whiz or just starting out, mistakes will be made — cakes will fall, soups will burn, and yes, even golden brown cookie cups will fall and make a mess.
In my thinking, nothing ventured nothing gained. So go ahead and keep cooking, and remember it’s okay to have an occasional “oops” moment beacuse even the best of us do.
Have you had a recent “oops” moment or kitchen disaster you’d like to share?
FYI, I did make the cookie cups over again and they were amazing! You’ll have to wait until our TV segment airs to see them, but in the meantime, why not try one of these yummy cookie recipes?

I had just put tins of cupcakes in the oven when the building manager decided to have a fire drill. Thinking it could not possibly take longer than 20 minutes (it never had before) I left the oven on and proceeded with the evacuation.
Little did I know that one of the children from the nursery down the hall went missing and they were looking for him before they could let anyone into the building. Needless to say I had to beg the fire chief to have one of the firemen “rescue” my muffins before they created a real fire!
Mr Food have you heard of okra chips? I can not find a recipe anywhere or any
one to tell me how to make them. If you can give me any insight on this or how to cook them I would greatly appericate it.
I have also tried this one, but it is an ordinary cookie baking in school, so we are assigned to make a cookie. We did every step written in a cooking book, but i decided that I should make many so that all of my classmates can eat, so i doubled the measurement of each recipe. After all the deeds were done, after the first batch were cooked, the second batch is not done because of Blackout… hahaha… So we ended throwing the dough…
That’s true, though you have some “Oops” or let’s say some failure, you still have to try.
Rose & Fluky – Those are some great stories! Glad to see we’re all together in this
Betty – We don’t have a recipe for okra chips, but you might want to try our recipe for Fried Okra: http://www.mrfood.com/Vegetables/Fried-Okra-783
That’s OK Patty…Have you ever watched Julia Childs cook? She always had lots of ooops…but was a fabulous Chef and very funny too!
