This is my favorite time of the year! All the Christmas lights and decorations are starting to go up, Starbucks has their yummy Peppermint Mocha coffee out and my kitchen turns into a bakery. I love to bake cookies and give them as gifts! If you need some easy homemade gift ideas, then you should try baking up some good old-fashioned cookies and give those away, like I do every year.
I started a few years ago baking cookies and giving them away as presents to some folks I see all the time…my hair dresser, my nail tech, the photo lab I go to, just to name a few. And every year they can’t wait to get them, so much so now that I’ve started to bake for more than just Christmastime. I even got a text the other day from one of my friends asking when the baking’s getting started because they were so anxious to get them!
Last year I made these fun little ladies for a ladies luncheon event at my Mom’s church, she used them as centerpieces for each table and they loved them!
I know this may sound cliché, but I think some of the best presents are the ones you make. I remember as a kid I used to make things all the time as presents, pictures and cards were big for me. I still remember this one time I was in kindergarten and made this red, white and green bracelet out of papier-mâché for my mom. I was so proud of it, but when she opened it up she started to tear up, and in a 6 year old’s mind I thought she didn’t like it. Later on she explained that they were “happy tears” because she knew I put a lot of thought and love into making her that bracelet. Years later she still whips out that bracelet and puts it on display. It’s funny what you remember as a kid. I didn’t understand about those “happy tears” until much later on when my niece made me a pencil holder when she was little and today it still sits on my desk.
So this holiday season I encourage you to get those creative juices flowing and make or BAKE something! It may surprise you how much joy it will bring to you and to those receiving! Baked your recipe for Snow-capped Red velvet cookies—-they looked sooooooooooooo good. BUT if you do not eat them right away they do not keep well. They get hard and very stale. I was very disappointed. I had baked them to keep for a later date——-the later date was the trash can!
