This past Christmas I decided to give the new Mr. Food Test Kitchen Comfort Cookbook out as gifts to some of my family and friends. Some had to be mailed but others were accompanied by one of the yummy dishes in the book, made by yours truly, which turned out to be a great idea!

Shortly after New Year’s I received an email from my cousin Janeen who said her 12 yr. old spunky little red-headed daughter Bekah wanted to make a recipe from the new book.

Homemade Cookies for Holiday Gifts

Tuesday, December 6th, 2011

Kelly Rusin1 signature Homemade Cookies for Holiday GiftsCookie Ladies Homemade Cookies for Holiday GiftsThis is my favorite time of the year! All the Christmas lights and decorations are starting to go up, Starbucks has their yummy Peppermint Mocha coffee out and my kitchen turns into a bakery. I love to bake cookies and give them as gifts! If you need some easy homemade gift ideas, then you should try baking up some good old-fashioned cookies and give those away, like I do every year.

I started a few years ago baking cookies and giving them away as presents to some folks I see all the time…my hair dresser, my nail tech, the photo lab I go to, just to name a few. And every year they can’t wait to get them, so much so now that I’ve started to bake for more than just Christmastime. I even got a text the other day from one of my friends asking when the baking’s getting started because they were so anxious to get them!

Halloween Jellybeans RE Halloween Memories & Leftover Candy RecipesKelly Rusin1 signature Halloween Memories & Leftover Candy RecipesHi there!

The other day I was talking to my cousin about what her kids were going to be for Halloween this year and we started to reminisce about when we were growing up.

I started thinking about some of the costumes I wore growing up, and then I found this picture…Yep, that’s me, a bag of Jelly Beans! Nothing fancy, but a fun idea…

I guess I was into food even back then! Some of my favorite Halloween memories always included going over to my Aunt Barbra’s house in the evening to celebrate her birthday.

The Best Cupcake Ever!

Kelly Rusin1 signature The Best Cupcake Ever!Cupcake Charlies 1 RE The Best Cupcake Ever!Have you ever had something that you just couldn’t believe how amazingly good it tasted?

Well, let me tell you about a place I found while on vacation visiting some family in the Northeast. While traveling through Plymouth, Massachusetts I stopped at a cupcake shop that I remembered seeing on the TV show “Cupcake Wars” called Cupcake Charlie’s.

I had to see if these cupcakes were as good as they said they were on the show.

My Visit to The Lady and Sons Restaurant

Thursday, August 18th, 2011

LadyandSons1 300x240 My Visit to The Lady and Sons RestaurantRoad trip time! While on the way up the East coast to visit some family, I took my mom on a side venture to Savannah, GA to eat at The Lady and Sons Restaurant. We both had never been to Savannah before and have always heard about how Paula Deen had a restaurant there, so being an adventurer I decided to give it a try. When I called to see if they took reservations I was told that I had to come in the morning when they opened at 9:30am to make a reservation for lunch or come in the afternoon to make a reservation for dinner.

Much to my surprise they don’t take reservations over the phone – you have to physically go and stand in line to make them. So I got up early the next morning and stood in a line with a bunch of other curious people to make an afternoon lunch reservation.

Lighthouse Adventure

Friday, July 8th, 2011

Hi, I’m Kelly – the official photographer for Mr. Food! The other day, I took a little road trip to see  my relatives who live in Saint Augustine, FL. Because it’s such a neat place to see, I wanted to share it with you.

First off, I had to photograph the famous lighthouse. I love that you can go inside and climb the stairs up to the top, which has spectacular views! When you first go into the gift shop to get your ticket, they give you these headsets, and as you walk around the property it explains all about the lighthouse and it’s history of St. Augustine – it’s really interesting. There is a museum to walk through also which is right across from the lighthouse and of course the gift shop. I’ve become a seeker of lighthouses now!

I also love visiting my family because they always have some new place they want to go to eat, and it’s always so good! Just like my Mr. Food family, they love to eat. The Columbia Restaurant is a favorite of ours; it’s located down town in the heart of St. Augustine surrounded by all the fun. The Palomilla Steak is delicious!! A must if you’re ever in St. Augustine.
Mushroom Sliders RE Lighthouse Adventure

The Gypsy Cab is another little fun place to eat at, very colorful both in décor and food. They have this Portabella Mushroom Burger that is so tasty! Reminds me of the one here at Mr. Food, the Mushroom Sliders!

Great food and great historical places to see – what more is there? icon smile Lighthouse Adventure

Have you ever been to St. Augustine? Any other fun summer trips you’d like to share?
