I think it was just something I didn’t think I needed. I have a set of really good quality cookware…and in our backyard; I have a large gas grill that is my husband’s baby.

So…whenever we’ve shared Mr. Food recipes using the option of cooking on a grill pan…I sheepishly admit, I didn’t have one, and either skipped it or made it in a skillet (which is not the same result, believe me…I know now). But a few months ago, I was out of town visiting family and we took a stroll through an outlet mall where we stopped off at a cookware store and there was a display of an assortment of non-stick grill pans, and on a whim, I bought one. Well, better late than never.

Border Biscuit Bake RE Groundhog Day vs. Game Day: Super Recipes for Both

Recipes like our Border Biscuit Bake are just right for either occasion!

Helayne Rosenblum signature Groundhog Day vs. Game Day: Super Recipes for BothToday’s a big day for Punxsutawney Phil, otherwise known as the most famous groundhog resident of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania!

Yes, it’s Groundhog Day and if your smart phone doesn’t have this momentous occasion on its calendar or if you live in a part of the country where the temperature has been below freezing, you might want to watch the news to see whether this rascal of a rodent sees his shadow or not.

As the legend goes, if he does, it’s time for you to think about some more tummy-warming dishes like recipes for steaming bowls of hearty soups, or bubblin’ hot casseroles or maybe a big pot of chili. But, if he doesn’t see his shadow – then an early spring is on its way, and lighter recipes like your favorite skillet dishes or main dish salads – all those “keep the kitchen cool” meals can be looked forward to.

It’s almost a tradition when the question comes up about New Year’s resolutions. Articles abound about suggestions for how to accomplish those lofty goals and now a lot of our Sunday newspaper inserts are filled with advertisements for exercise equipment. Potato Pancakes & More Recipes for Holiday Visitors

Friday, December 2nd, 2011

Helayne Rosenblum signature Potato Pancakes & More Recipes for Holiday VisitorsOld Fashioned Potato Pancakes RE Potato Pancakes & More Recipes for Holiday VisitorsThis time of year generally brings an end to empty nest syndrome for a lot of us. Those who have flown the nest and headed to college or have married and settled in new locales converge upon “home” for the holidays.

And who doesn’t love having the kids back home? Gathering everyone together for Chanukah, Christmas, or the New Year and cooking their favorite foods is what every empty nester loves most. Well, I certainly do, and I look forward to welcoming my daughter and son-in-law and baby grandson in from out of town, immensely. It’s the time I can dust off my food processor and rolling pin, get out the good china and glassware, set the dining room table and show off my best recipes. Some of my own, some that have been passed down from generation to generation in my family, and the new ones have been gathered over the years since I’ve been here at Mr. Food.

Spooky Supper Ideas

Monday, October 24th, 2011

Helayne Rosenblum signature Spooky Supper IdeasSpaghetti Brains and Eyeballs RE Spooky Supper IdeasHalloween is just days away, and I’m really getting to re-live my childhood through the eyes of my little grandson this year. He’s almost two, and this will be the first Halloween that he is officially dressing up in costume to go trick-or-treating with my daughter and son-in-law.

Now of course, at his age, the treats are not going to be candy; but it will still be fun to see him enjoy this holiday that brings out the kid in all of us. Last year he visited a pumpkin patch for the first time, and this year, we’re going together as a family to enjoy that wonderful autumn experience again.

Of course, with every parent wondering how to get their kids to eat dinner before heading out into the darkness to go trick or treating in the neighborhood, I thought I’d give you a hint as to how to convince them not to skip it.

Tuesday, September 13th, 2011

Helayne Rosenblum signature No Bones About It: 15 Minute Homemade Chicken SoupHelaynes Chicken Soup 300x225 No Bones About It: 15 Minute Homemade Chicken SoupMy nest is empty… It’s just me and my husband, my time is limited and my stress levels are high. Does that sound familiar?

Well if it does, a soothing bowl of chicken soup is in order.

Of course, I know my mother would start with a fresh cut up whole chicken and soup greens and let it all simmer on the stove until it was fully cooked. Now truly… It doesn’t take that long to do that, and when I’m feeling in the mood, I absolutely do make it that way. But by the time I get home from work…after a long day and long drive home…do I really want to start from scratch and also have to remove the chicken from the bones and strain everything?
