Beth and Jessie signature 15 Reasons to Love FallPumpkin Spice Bread RE 15 Reasons to Love FallHi, all! Beth here, today! There are many reasons I love fall. This fall, however, I’ve discovered yet another reason I love it – pumpkins, and everything pumpkin. Pumpkin patches, pumpkin lattes, and carving pumpkins – I love them all.

I particularly love this collection of pumpkin recipes that the Mr. Food Test Kitchen recently compiled. Only problem is, I’m having trouble picking just one recipe to make! Check it out and let me know what you think.

Food (and Coffee!) Heaven

082611 Food Heaven 1 206x300 Food (and Coffee!) HeavenHi, all! Beth here today! Have you ever had one of those meals that was so delicious that you literally thought youwere in love at first bite? Well, I hope you’ve had the pleasure because this “falling in love with my food” situation recently happened to me and, holy cow, I thought I was in food heaven.

I recently planned a day trip to Miami with a couple of my girlfriends and one of them, who happened to know the area quite well, said she had to take us to this chic espresso bar for lunch. She said it was called Aroma.

I almost stopped dead in my tracks. (I have to put in this small tidbit: Most of my friends would call me enthusiastic and quite excitable.)  I had been to Aroma a few times when I had spent some time in Israel, but I had no idea that they had any locations in America (I’ve now learned they have five American locations – four in New York and the one I went to in Miami).

Easy, Excellent Entertaining

Tuesday, July 26th, 2011

As Mr. Food’s granddaughter, my friends expect me to be exceptionally kitchen savvy, and that’s a lot of pressure! I’m

Better Baked Ziti RE Easy, Excellent Entertaining

One of our go-to recipes for entertaining friends: Better Baked Ziti!

not saying that I’m a kitchen dingbat, but I’m also far from a kitchen mastermind (My sister, Beth, looked over this blog for me and seemed to think the mere suggestion of me being a kitchen mastermind was ridiculous…how sweet!). Sure I can follow a recipe but when asked to do a little of this and a little of that… Yea, right!

Now that I’ve gone off on a tangent, let me get back on topic. My sister and I like to entertain our friends up at school and they all come over expecting a good meal. Usually, we don’t disappoint. Going back to school in about a month (I can’t believe how quickly this summer is going!), I am going to start searching for fun and easy recipes now so that I’m prepared! Having worked at Mr. Food all summer has really enriched my kitchen knowledge and has given me a lot more tools that I can bring

A recipe I'm dying to try: Strawberry Cheesecake French Toast!

back to school with me.

Beth and I both have very busy lives, but we both value tremendously, the worth of spending time with our loved ones around a good meal! We’ve found that there’s no better way to catch up! Also, Beth and I really like cooking together, it’s awesome quality time for us (and a great way to procrastinate from homework)!

I am and have always been a list person! They keep me organized in my hectic life as a college student. So, because I’m such a fan of lists, I’ve compiled two. The first list is of my go-to recipes whenever we have people over. My second list is of recipes I hope to try!

List 1:

  1. Better Baked Ziti
  2. Best Mashed Potatoes Ever
  3. Chocolate Chip Cheesecake
  4. Quick and Easy Macaroni and Cheese

List 2:

  1. Strawberry Cheesecake French Toast
  2. Best Ever Noodle Pudding
  3. Bow Tie Vegetable Pasta
  4. Pasta Fruit Salad

What recipes are on your go-to list? And which recipes do you hope to try in the future?

Daddy’s Not-So-Little Girls

Friday, June 17th, 2011

Based on the story we’ve heard many times, it’s safe to assert that our Dad was less than “cool-as-a-cucumber” when our Mom told him they were expecting twin daughters. Actually, his reaction was more along the lines of, “What are we going to do?!?!” Of course, as the reality set in, our Dad’s emotions evolved from nervous to excited and eventually, to elated! Apparently our grandparents (Mr. Food, or Pop-Pop as we call him, is included in that lucky bunch) were just as thrilled!

As our Dad’s now 20-year-old kinda-on-our-own daughters, we find his initial reaction quite amusing, coming from the man we consider to be the world’s best Dad. Loving, kind-hearted, hard-working, and principled, our Daddy is the ultimate good-guy in every way. It’s not by accident that our Dad is this way, either. The values he’s taught us and the way he has raised us are a direct result of the values imbued in him by our Pop-Pop and Grandma (Mr. and Mrs. Food), and hopefully these are the values we will one day pass down to our children.

Of course, with no intention of stealing the thunder of Dads all over, we were thinking about adjusting the name of Father’s Day to something more along the lines of “Lucky Kids Day,” (even though everyday is Lucky Kids Day!) because that sums up exactly what we are—lucky kids!

We wish every father a Happy Father’s Day and we extend a hearty thank you from fortunate kids everywhere. We especially thank our Dad, though!

Do you have any special plans for Father’s Day?
